Who is right for Ketamine Infusion Therapy?

Those suffering from treatment-resistant depression

While traditional antidepressants take several weeks, if not months, to offer any relief from depression, within just hours of an infusion, IV Ketamine has been proven effective for symptoms of depression. Researcher Elizabeth Ballard, PhD. of the National Institute of Mental Health, notably published a study that found Ketamine to ““reduce suicidal thoughts independent of its effect on depression or anxiety. Here is an excellent resource that describes an individual journey with ketamine.

Patients with PTSD

In PTSD, there is mounting evidence for a role of the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate in stress responsiveness, the formation of traumatic memories, and the pathophysiology of PTSD. Double-blind study demonstrated that infusion of ketamine rapidly and significantly reduces symptom severity in patients with PTSD compared with midazolam.

We ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your infusion so we are ready to begin on time! The therapy generally takes an hour, and you’ll be very comfortable in our treatment rooms. Wear comfortable clothing, you will be sitting in an infusion massage chair during your treatment. You will have the option to listen to music if desired! We’ll develop an individualized treatment plan, but generally IV Ketamine infusions include 6-8 infusions over a month’s time.

We understand that most patients have never experienced ketamine before their infusion at NeuroMedici. During your infusion, you may feel some sensitivity to light and/or sound. Most patients use this time for deep relaxation and meditation. Allow your mind to wander without the worry of anxiety or intrusive thoughts.

The effects of ketamine are felt quickly; you’ll be aware of your surroundings yet won’t be able to carry on with normal daily functions, like having a normal conversation or standing up. You may experience feeling confused, dizzy, or nauseous. More often, patients have little to no side effective, and any effects will quickly subside. Patients will need someone to drive them home after the treatment.
